Srinagar, Feb 13 (KNO): As the holy month of Ramzan approaches, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Friday underscored the spiritual and historic centrality of Jama Masjid Srinagar, urging authorities to ensure unhindered religious observance during the sacred month. He also welcomed the formation of a new government in Bangladesh following recent elections. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, has said that as the blessed month of Ramzan approaches, the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar and the holy month share a deep spiritual and historic bond. “For centuries, the mosque has remained the central place of collective worship, reflection, repentance, and supplication during this sacred month.” Addressing the Friday congregation at Jama Masjid Mirwaiz, expressed hope that the authorities will not impose restrictions as witnessed in previous years on significant occasions such as Shab-e-Qadr, Juma-tul-Vida, and Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that Ramzan is not only about individual devotion but also about collective ‘ibadah, when thousands gather in unity for prayers and spiritual renewal. It deeply hurts the sentiments of people when, without reason, the largest mosque of the Valley is forcibly closed on such sacred occasions. He stressed that closure of a central place of worship during the most sacred days of the Islamic calendar causes anguish among the faithful and undermines the spirit of the holy month. He appealed to the people—young and old, men and women—to come to Jamia Masjid in large numbers during Ramzan, as they have always done, and make the most of this blessed month, which is a month of mercy, forgiveness, self-purification, unity, and drawing closer to the Almighty. “Mirwaiz also welcomed that after free and fair elections, a new government is coming to office in Bangladesh. He congratulated the winning BNP and the people of Bangladesh. He said that the people of jammu and Kashmir pray for peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.” He expressed hope that good relations among all neighbouring countries are established that could help usher peace , progress and lasting stability in the region.—(KNO)
